Arrival Instructions for RESL

As the summer session comes to an end, we always have a ton of fun with the whole team attending the Redwood Empire Swim League (RESL) Championship meet.  This year the meet will be held at Contra Costa College in San Pablo.

Bill’s arrival instructions are as follows:

If you are swimming then 200 IM – arrive by 3pm.

If you are swimming then 200 Free – arrive by 4pm

All Sharks & Minnows should arrive by 7:45 am

All Guppies should arrive by 8:15

A few important notes about this meet:

 1) Trials & Finals format for 9 & older swimmers:

For all 9 and older swimmers, this is a trials and finals meet.  So, be sure to look at the results to see if your swimmers is in the Top 18 swimmers – the top 16 swimmers come back in the late afternoon for Championship (1-8) and Consolation (9-16) Finals. Positions 17 and 18 are designated as alternates and will swim only if someone that is seeded in the finals does not appear at the blocks for their finals race.

It is proper protocol and respectful to the other swimmers that you officially scratch from the finals, if you indeed are in the top 16 of any individual event. You need to do this within 30 minutes of prelim announcements being made by the announcer.  This format is a great experience for our younger swimmers since as they progress in their swim team experiences, the trials and finals format, with scratch processes, is something they will experience in higher level and senior level meets.

8 & Under events will only occur in the morning session.  All 8&Under events are “timed finals” and they will NOT be expected to return late in the afternoon for finals.

2) No host meet

This meet only happens because of the parents from all the teams volunteering to do the jobs required for a meet to run.  Montclair parents will be running the Colorado Timing System and other teams will have other assigned jobs such as Clerk of the Course, Marshalling, Runners, Programs/Awards, etc.    While Montclair has several parents that are experienced in running the system, we will need to have about 3 more parents volunteers (preferably Guppy or Minnow parents) to learn how to run the system.

Please contact Todd Masson or Melissa Zaharias to schedule time – or stop by the Colorado desk and talk to them first thing in the morning.

Also, a big thanks to Melissa, Todd, Brian, Edward, and Mike for taking the brunt of Montclair’s job responsibilities.

3) Timing chairs

We will be responsible for at 2 timing chairs – more likely 3.  I’ll be sending out a Sign Up Genius request.  ALL FAMILIES – including Guppy Families – should plan on signing up for at least one shift.  If we all pitch in and time (and shepherd swimmers in common age groups to their starting blocks), then the burden remains light, instead of a heavy burden on a few.

Those families that are providing Colorado and Officiating volunteers, should be a last in priority in signing up for timing chairs.

4) Officiating

Edward, Kent, Nora, & Alison will be officiating on at least one day.
